Google is expanding its AI-powered search experience with a major update that pulls quotes directly from Reddit threads, specialist forums, blogs, and online communities into AI-generated answers. The change introduces a new “Expert Advice” section inside AI Overviews and AI Mode, signaling a broader shift in how Google wants users to interact with search results.

Instead of relying mainly on traditional ranked links, Google’s AI responses are increasingly being built around a mix of summarized information, publisher citations, and first-person community discussions. The update also adds more visible publisher links and subscription-aware shortcuts designed to push users directly into articles and content they already pay for.

The rollout reflects Google’s attempt to make AI-generated search answers feel more human, contextual, and conversational at a time when users increasingly seek recommendations and lived experiences rather than static web pages.

Google Is Turning AI Search Into a Conversation Layer

The most noticeable addition is the new “Expert Advice” panel that appears within certain AI-generated search results.

The feature surfaces short quoted excerpts from places such as Reddit communities, niche forums, blogs, and creator discussions. Each quote is paired with contextual information including the subreddit name, creator handle, or website source so users can judge credibility and click through to the original discussion.

For example, a search about photographing the northern lights might include direct advice from a photography subreddit discussing camera exposure settings or timing tips.

The update changes how Google presents community knowledge. Instead of showing Reddit threads only as separate search results, the AI itself now integrates those perspectives directly into the answer experience.

Google Is Automating a Search Habit Millions Already Use

The move reflects a behavior pattern that has become increasingly common across the internet.

Many users already add terms like “Reddit” to Google searches when looking for authentic product reviews, troubleshooting advice, tutorials, or personal experiences. Google is effectively formalizing that behavior by making forum discussions part of the AI answer itself rather than requiring users to search for them manually.

The company says users increasingly trust firsthand perspectives and peer discussions when making decisions about purchases, travel, health questions, or technical issues. By embedding those conversations into AI Overviews, Google hopes users will stay within the AI search interface rather than bypassing it to hunt for community threads separately.

Alongside community content, Google is also redesigning how publisher links appear inside AI search responses.

The updated interface places more links directly inside AI-generated answers instead of pushing publishers further down the page. These can include news articles, blogs, long-form explainers, tutorials, and related reports placed next to relevant sections of the AI summary.

Google is also introducing “subscribed” labels for sites users already pay for, allowing readers to jump directly into premium or paywalled content without friction.

Hover previews and expanded contextual labels are designed to make sources more transparent and easier to evaluate before clicking.
